EP CHARLES CUL PER, Mayor City of Round Rock, Texas DATE: March 11, 1997 SUBJECT: City Council Meeting, March 13, 1997 ITEM: 9A. Consider an ordinance concerning speed zone changes on Greenlawn from Gattis School Road to Louis Henna Boulevard. (Second Reading) STAFF RESOURCE PERSON: Jim Nuse STAFF RECOMMENDATION: In response to concerns voiced by the Greenlawn Place Owners Association about speed limits on Greenlawn Boulevard between Gattis School Road and Louis Henna Boulevard, the Public Works Department conducted an engineering and traffic investigation to examine the existing speed limits_ The current speed limit southbound on Greenlawn Blvd. is 40 mph from Gattis School Rd. to Louis Henna Blvd. Northbound, the speed limit on Greenlawn Blvd. is 40 mph from Louis Henna Blvd. to just north of Stratford Dr. where it reduces to 30 mph for the remainder of the distance to Gattis School Rd. The result is that the southbound speed limit posted is 10 mph faster than the northbound speed limit on Greenlawn Blvd. from Gattis School Rd. to just north of Stratford Dr. Based on the engineering and traffic investigation conducted, it is recommended that the speed limits on Greenlawn Blvd. be revised as follows: From Gattis School Road to 185 feet south of Stratford Drive 35 mph From 185 feet south of Stratford Drive to Louis Henna Boulevard 40 mph These recommendations will establish uniform speed zones for both directions of travel reducing confusion for the motorist, and making enforcement easier for the Round Rock Police Department. The findings and recommendations from the engineering and traffic investigation were discussed with representatives of the Greenlawn Place Owners Association in a meeting at the Public Works Building on February 18, 1997. Staff recommends approval. GATTIS SCHOOL R
