City Traffic Engineer 4kk4 f:k c
DATE: September 17, 1997
SUBJECT: City Council Meeting, September 25, 1997
ITEM: 12C. Consider an ordinance concerning speed zone changes on Sunrise
Road from OId Settlers Blvd. to Chandler Road. (Second Reading)
STAFF RESOURCE PERSON: Jim Nuse
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
An engineering study of the speed zones on Sunrise Road from Old Settler's Blvd. to
Chandler Road has recently been completed. The results of the study indicates that some
adjustments to the existing speed zones are appropriate. Approval of the proposed
changes will increase the speed limits to match the existing level of development in the
area, while still providing for safe operations of the street. Currently, a 35 mph speed limit
is established by City Ordinance and posted. The proposed changes are summarized as
follows:
Sunrise Road from OId Settler's Blvd. to 508 feet north of Lake Drive.
Sunrise Road from 508 feet north of Lake Drive to Chandler Road.
- 40 mph
- 50 mph
It would appear that establishing the above speed zoning will require repeal of a portion
of Ordinance No. 2076 approved November 10, 1983.
Staff recommends Council approval.
