G-93-03-11-8A - 3/11/1993ORDINANCE NO. 4 - 93 -03 -11 -Th AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1, SECTION 10, PARAGRAPH (D), CODE OF ORDINANCES (1990 EDITION), CITY OF ROUND ROCK, WHICH ESTABLISHES THE COMMENCEMENT OF TERMS OF OFFICE FOR NEWLY -ELECTED MAYORS AND CITY COUNCILMEMBERS; PROVIDING FOR A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES OR RESOLUTIONS. WHEREAS, in order to provide for the continuity of government and to add to the efficiency in administering the operation of the City through its Mayor and Councilmembers; Now Therefore BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, THAT: I. That Chapter 1, Section 10, Paragraph (D), Code of Ordinances (1990 Edition), City of Round Rock is hereby amended to read as follows: D. Beginning with the election held on the first Saturday in May, 1993, and continuing thereafter, the terms of each newly -elected Mayor or Councilmember shall commence on the date of the second regularly scheduled City Council meeting held immediately following the election or runoff, if necessary. II. A. All ordinances, parts of ordinances, or resolutions in conflict herewith are expressly repealed. B. The invalidity of any section or provision of this ordinance shall not invalidate other sections or provisions thereof. OR03113A Alternative 1. (First Reading) STAFF RESOURCE PERSON: Joanne Land STAFF RECOMMENDATION: The attached ordinance will allow the canvass of a City election to be held at the first regular meeting following the election. It also allows the swearing in of newly elected council members to take place the fourth Thursday in May. This item was discussed at the last Council meeting.
