O-92-2569 - 4/09/1992ORDINANCE NO. 51.p9 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 2.31 OF THE PERSONNEL RULES AND PROCEDURES MANUAL TO AMEND THE PERIOD OF PROBATION FOR NEW EMPLOYEES TO 180 DAYS; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE AND REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS: I. That Section 2.31 of the Personnel Rules and Procedures Manual of The City of Round Rock is hereby amended to read as follows: 2.31 PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEE A working test period of 180 days during which an employee is required to demonstrate his/her fitness for the actual performance of the assigned duties of the position. "Initial" probationary period is the first probationary period completed by an employee following the original date of hire. II. A. All ordinances, parts of ordinances, or resolutions in conflict herewith are expressly repealed. B. The invalidity of any section or provision of this ordinance shall not invalidate other sections or provisions thereof. Alternative 1. By motion duly made, seconded and passed with an affirmative vote of all the Council members present, the requirement for reading this ordinance on two separate days was dispensed with. PERSON: Linda Gunther STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Currently, City employees, upon hire have a probationary period of 120 days. Police personnel have a 180 day probationary period. In concurrence with the compensation review team, staff recommends amending the personnel policy to require a 180 day probationary period for all new appointments. Benefits of extending the probationary period: Time period would be standardized thoughout the City. Allow a longer period of time for employees to adjust to his/her new position. Allow supervisory/management to give a fair evaluation of performance.
