DATE: November 10, 1992
SUBJECT: City Council Meeting, November 12, 1992
ITEM: 11C. Consider an ordinance requiring franchises for commercial
garbage service providers. (Second Reading)
STAFF RESOURCE PERSON: Jim Nuse
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Funding street repair and maintenance is a growing issue. Garbage trucks cause a great
deal of wear and tear on the streets. Currently the residential refuse collector, Round Rock
Refuse, pays a fee which covers use of City streets. The commercial haulers currently pay only
a minimal fee in Round Rock. A fee is charged in all other cities surveyed. Representatives
of the haulers and City staff are meeting to agree on an appropriate fee. Further details will be
presented at the meeting.
