SECTION I
All house numbers shall be assigned by the City Secretary, or such other
person as may be designated by the City Council, to act in such capacity.
Numbering needed for new construction shall be assigned at the time the
building permit is issued.
j SECTION II
East and West block numbers shall progress each way from the center of
Mays Street or U. S. Highway 81.
The first block east being the 100 block; the second block east being
the 200 block, etc., and
The first block west being the 100 block; the second block west being
the 200 block, and so on.
North and South block numbers shall progress each way from the center of
Main Street;
The first block north being the 100 block; the second block north being
the 200 block, etc., and
The first block south being the 100 block; the second block south being
the 200 block, and so on.
SECTION III
Odd Numbers shall be assigned to frontabe abutting east side of street and
south side of street as follows:
First space takes 01, second space 03, third space 05, fourth space 07, and
so on as required.
Even Numbers shall be assigned to frontage abutting west side of street and
north side of street as follows;
First space takes 00, second space 02, third space 04, fourth space 06, and
so on as required.
The block number is written in the series to precede the frontage number;
Complete house numbers are written as follows: 100, 103, 200, 207, 1201,
1420, etc.
Any building, either residential or commercial, and occupying more than one
space to which numbers have been assigned, may take any number assigned to
the space that is occupies by the building; however, it is better practice
to assign the number corresponding to the space where the entrance to the
building is located.
SECTION IV
Residential Frontage shall be numbered on the basis of 50 to 75 feet for
each number, depending upon the layout of the property and the building
restrictions placed upon sane.
Large lots having a frontage of 100 feet or more may first be numbered on
the basis of two houses per lot; however, building restrictions placed up-
on the property may limit development to one residence per lot. In such
case, only one number should be assigned to each lot.
If definite information cannot be obtained regarding the development of
lots having frontage larger than usual, it is good gractice to assign each
lot two numbers, then when development is well under way, the manner in
which the entire block should be numbered can best be determined. It is
better to have more numbers than are needed than to lack enough numbers
to supply every house.
SECTION V
Commercial Frontage requires numbers much closer together than does res-
idential frontage. The space requirements may range as low as 12 feet per
number, depending upon the original layout of the subdivision and also
upon the manner in which the property is developed. As a general rule one
number assigned to each 20 to 30 feet of street frontage in commercial
blocks will answer all normal requirements.
If a commercial building is located on a street corner and the entrance
door does not fall within the frontage taking the first number, the number
assigned to the building shall be that corresponding to the space within
which the door is situated.
Any building, either residential or commercial, ldcated on a corner lot
may be assigned a number on either or both streets.
SECTION VI
An apartment house shall take the number alloted to the space upon which
it is located, but the separate apartments shall be designated by the
alphabetical suffix as follows: 8014, 800,804C, 804D, etc, indicating
separate apartments.
In case an apartment house is located on a corner lot and has an entrance
on each street, each entrance may carry the number assigned on the street
it faces. If each entrance leads to only one apartment, then, and in
that case, the alphabetical suffic need not be used.
A garage apartment located on an interior lot shall take the suffix num-
ber of the premises upon which it is located, eg. 510A, 907A, etc.
A garage apartment located on a corner lot, and not facing the same street
as the main house occupying the same premises upon which the garage apart-
ment is located, shall take the number assigned to the space it occupies
on the street it faces; no suffix number being used in this case, eg. 709,
810, 911, etc.
'f
SECTION VII

need of referring to an alley by name. The following policy of naming

Rock.
