WHEREAS, the U. S . Department of Justice, has grant funds
available to cities for various law enforcement projects, and
WHEREAS, Local Law Enforcement Block Grants ("LLEBG" ) are
available through the Bureau of Justice Assistance' s Office of Justice
Programs for funds to procure equipment, technology, and other material
directly related to basic law enforcement functions, and
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to make application for the
LLEBG to provide financial assistance for the above-described items,
Now Therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROUND ROCK, TEXAS,
That the City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to make
the necessary application for the above-described grant .
The City Council hereby finds and declares that written notice of
the date, hour, place and subject of the meeting at which this
Resolution was adopted was posted and that such meeting was open to the
public as required by law at all times during which this Resolution and
the subject matter hereof were discussed, considered and formally acted
upon, all as required by the Open Meetings Act, Chapter 551, Texas
Government Code, as amended, and the Act .

The funding source is the federal Local Law Enforcement Block Grants Program, which provides jurisdictions
block grant funding in seven purpose areas so law enforcement agencies may fund projects and equipment they
otherwise would not be able to purchase.

Brief description of proposed grant program: These grant funds would be used to purchase equipment that
the city otherwise would not fund due to budget constraints. This equipment will include an internal messaging
system to enhance internal department communications.

SUBJECT: City Council Meeting—July 26, 2001
ITEM: 14.13.3. Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to make the necessary
grant application to the U.S. Department of Justice for the Local Law
Enforcement Block Grant Program for the purchase of law
enforcement equipment. This grant would provide $24,983 in funds for
the purchase of law enforcement equipment. This grant would require
$2,498 matching funds.

History: This is a regular block grant program to which the Police Department. During the
past two years, these grant funds have been used for computer and protective
equipment. This year's planned expenditures include an internal messaging system to
improve internal communications in the Department

and the community reviews purchases under this program before they are made.
