SUBJECT: City Council Meeting—August 23, 2001
ITEM: *14.E.2. Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to issue a
purchase order to Texas Guardrail for the purchase of a fence at
Woods Park. The cost of the fence is $8,687.00.
Resource: Sharon Prete, Parks and Recreation Director
Wade Tomlinson
History: The neighborhood Park Planning Team identified a fence, separating the park
from the railroad track as a top priority.
Funding:
Cost: $8,687.00
Source of funds: 1996 G.O. Bond
Outside Resources: Texas Guardrail
Impact: This contract with Texas Guardrail is for the construction of an eight-foot tall,
approximately 730 linear feet of chain link fence. The fence will provide a
barrier between the park and the adjacent railroad. PARD will install plant
material along the fence, which in time will cover the fence forming an
attractive barrier.
Benefit: A safer play environment is being created by prohibiting access to the railroad
tracks.
Public Comment: PARD has been working with the neighborhood and together has
developed design goals for the park.
